Crypto entrepreneur and escapee, Su Zhu’s luxurious $36 million real estate in Singapore has been metamorphosed into an eco-farm.
Recent local media narratives reveal that Zhu’s dwelling place, located on the affluent Yarwood Avenue in the city-state, has been reborn as “Yarwood Homestead,” managed by Abundant Cities, a firm co-established by his wife, Evelyn Tao.
Employing ecological design and agroecology, the company has turned the mansion’s gardens into a diminutive farmland, yielding vegetables, herbs, fruits, as well as fish and poultry. Moreover, the bungalow’s front yard has been transformed into 36 vegetable plots, cultivating a variety of produce such as okra, spinach, beans, kale, sesame seeds, and radishes. The swimming pool has been reconceptualized as a natural pond, teeming with aquatic plants, rivulets, and various species of fish and shrimp. The farm also serves as a venue for assorted private events and gatherings.
Zhu, along with his wife, acquired the property in March 2022, shelling out $36 million, shortly before his Singapore-based hedge fund, Three Arrows Capital (3AC), crumbled. At the pinnacle of the crypto bull market, 3AC allegedly overseen more than $10 billion in digital assets. However, it declared bankruptcy in July 2022 after a string of unsuccessful leveraged bets on the Terra ecosystem and is now confronted with up to $3.5 billion in claims from creditors.
As reported by Cointelegraph on Sept. 29, Zhu was apprehended at Singapore’s Changi International Airport as he attempted to exit the country, following the issuance of a committal order by a court. Just days earlier, Teneo, the liquidator for 3AC, had been granted its committal application in Singapore, alleging that Zhu failed to adhere to a court order related to the retrieval of corporate assets. Zhu received a four-month prison sentence for the violation. His co-founder, Kyle Davies — previously a citizen of the United States and now a Singaporean national — was also sentenced to four months in jail. Nonetheless, Davies’ current location is shrouded in mystery. Earlier this year, Davies confidently declared in public that there were no “forthcoming lawsuits or regulatory actions” against him at that moment.
