The Vietnamese IT company FPT and Nvidia, a global leader in semiconductor chip production, have announced their collaboration to finance and construct a $200 million artificial intelligence (AI) factory in Vietnam.
In a joint statement released on April 23, the companies outlined their vision to establish a comprehensive AI and cloud computing hub in Vietnam. This initiative aims to centralize AI products, GPU infrastructure, technical expertise, and domain knowledge to cater to local clients.
FPT will invest in the AI factory, positioning it as a “sovereign cloud,” while Nvidia will provide cutting-edge technology, including AI enterprise software, frameworks, and Nvidia H100 Tensor Core GPUs.
The statement underlines FPT’s ambition to position Vietnam as a global leader in AI technology and foster its development as an AI-driven nation. The collaboration also seeks to expedite the adoption of AI applications in neighboring countries such as Japan and Korea.
The factory will offer cloud GPU services to FPT’s corporate clients, enhancing the capabilities and efficiency of AI applications. It will also provide end-to-end generative AI services. Furthermore, Nvidia’s programs will be integrated into educational institutions nationwide, reaching an estimated 30,000 students initially.
In December 2023, Nvidia’s CEO revealed plans to expand partnerships in Vietnam to attract local talent in the AI industry. Earlier, in September 2023, the United States and Vietnam forged business agreements worth billions of dollars to deepen cooperation in AI, focusing on bolstering the semiconductor supply chain. This collaboration involved key players in the AI sector such as Nvidia, Microsoft, and Google.
