Deputy Alfredo Gaspar, a member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, has requested the summoning of Guilherme Haddad, the director of Binance Brazil, to appear before the Brazilian parliament as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged pyramid schemes in the country.
The request will be voted on by members of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on June 27.
Gaspar claimed that Binance was utilized by pyramid schemes in Brazil to facilitate asset transfers. He highlighted the need to understand Binance’s operations, its association with B Fintech, and its involvement with companies facing legal action in Brazil. Binance has faced regulatory scrutiny not only in Brazil but also in several other countries, including the United States, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
In response, a Binance spokesperson stated that the company’s top priority is user protection and emphasized its collaboration with local authorities to combat cyber and financial crimes. The spokesperson reiterated Binance’s compliance with the Brazilian regulatory framework and expressed a willingness to work with the Brazilian government and regulators.
Binance is also facing investigations by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office and Federal Police in Brazil. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil has reportedly pressed Binance to cease offering Bitcoin futures products to Brazilian customers.
The summoning of Guilherme Haddad is seen as part of the broader scrutiny and regulatory actions faced by Binance in Brazil and internationally.
