Neel Somani, the founder and CEO of Ethereum layer 2 blockchain Eclipse, has announced his decision to “temporarily reduce” his public role within the company amidst allegations of sexual misconduct.
In a post on May 9, Somani acknowledged the allegations made against him on Twitter and vehemently denied them, emphasizing their seriousness and the need for a thoughtful response. He asserted that he has never sexually assaulted or harassed any woman and expressed his commitment to clearing his name and defending himself.
Somani stated that he believes Eclipse’s senior leadership is capable of handling responsibilities in his absence, allowing for a fair examination of the allegations. This decision, he believes, will enable transparency and the emergence of truth regarding the accusations.
In a separate post on May 9, Eclipse affirmed its commitment to taking allegations against Somani seriously and emphasized the importance of truth in the matter. However, neither Somani nor Eclipse immediately responded to requests for further comment.
Eclipse recently announced a significant milestone in March, raising a $50 million Series A round led by venture firms Hack VC and Placeholder. This funding brought the total capital raised by the company to $65 million. Notably, Eclipse launched the mainnet of its Ethereum layer 2 platform in September 2023.
