On July 26, Ledger, a leading hardware wallet provider, announced the launch of its latest innovation—the Ledger Flex. This new device follows the successful introduction of the Ledger Stax, marking a significant evolution in Ledger’s touchscreen wallet offerings. According to Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier, both the Flex and Stax represent “the new standard for Ledger devices,” combining cutting-edge technology with the company’s renowned security.
Enhanced Interface and Security Features
Similar to its predecessor, the Ledger Stax, the Flex features an E Ink touchscreen interface designed to improve user experience. Gauthier emphasized that the new wallet maintains the “same uncompromising security” that Ledger is known for while offering a more intuitive interface. Both models now incorporate near-field communication (NFC) logins through the Ledger Security Key feature, enhancing ease of use.
In conjunction with the Flex, Ledger has also launched the Ledger Security Key. This feature, compatible with both the Stax and Flex, enables passwordless logins and two-factor authentication (2FA) using the FIDO2 standard for passkeys. This open standard ensures broad compatibility across major platforms like Google, Amazon, Binance, and Coinbase. Users can now seamlessly access these services by simply tapping their Flex or Stax on their phone or connecting via USB to a laptop or PC.
The Ledger Flex is priced at $249, making it a more affordable alternative to the Ledger Stax, which retails for $399. Both devices are available for purchase on Ledger’s website and at Best Buy stores across the United States.
What Makes Ledger Wallets Secure?
Gauthier outlined the three essential components for a truly secure wallet: a secure element chip for generating and storing private keys, a secure operating system built on this chip, and a secure screen also powered by the secure element. According to Gauthier, Ledger devices uniquely meet all these criteria, with their touchscreen technology being “the only secure touchscreens in the world.”
