MicroStrategy’s Lightning Network solutions include Satoshi-powered incentives for marketing and website cybersecurity.
MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor shared his company’s plans to release software and solutions based on the Bitcoin Lightning Network in 2023. Speaking at the
Twitter Spaces event on December 28, Saylor said the company is exploring software and solutions that use the Lightning Network, such as solutions that “supports” the business marketing and cyber security solution for corporate websites.
Lightning Network is a layer 2 payment protocol overlaid on the Bitcoin blockchain that enables off-chain transactions, increases payment flow, and lowers transaction fees.
MicroStrategy, a business intelligence and technology company known for its massive Bitcoin holdings, was looking to bolster its lightning-smart team. Most recently, it announced plans to hire a software engineer to build software based on the Lightning Network service platform. During a chat on
Twitter Spaces, Saylor explained that marketing managers could potentially use the Lightning Network to incentivize customers—for example, by giving satoshi rewards for activities like posting good reviews or completing surveys.
The company also wants to make it possible for any company to “develop” Lightning infrastructure “in an afternoon,” he said.
MicroStrategy’s president has again mentioned his “Lightning Wall” cybersecurity idea, essentially a Bitcoin-based paywall that would protect websites from cybersecurity attacks by requiring visitors to make a Satoshi deposit.
Saylor explained that users who want to access the company’s sensitive websites must pay “100,000 satoshis” for a secure passage, which is returned as soon as the user ends their visit.
He noted that this is something that credit cards can’t offer because of the delays in getting the money back, saying,
“The problem with credit cards is that you can’t reasonably send $20 to $100 to websites every day and then get it back. $20 every second, could you
Saylor believes it’s only a matter of time before someone creates a Lightning version of the “Netscape browser,” which he believes will include “something” like a Lightning wallet that holds dollars and various cryptocurrencies.
He believes that if this wallet is created in a non-prison environment, it has the potential to spread to 100 million people. During the
Twitter Spaces chat, Saylor again praised the Lightning Network as “the Internet of money” and praised its “inspiring” success.
He said that the company has teams working on it and wants to have something “next year”, adding that it is more likely to be able to show something in the first quarter.
In October, Michael Saylor hit back at Eric Wall for his suggestion that Saylor had done no more than three lightning events in his lifetime.
A new type of BTC address has just been introduced. Lightning addresses allow users to transact on the Lightning Network almost instantly, while regular Bitcoin transactions take an average of 10 minutes.
