The Miss Universe Organization has categorically denied any involvement with the Miss Universe Coin project, which was unveiled during the Philippine Blockchain Week (PBW) event earlier this month. The PBW has assured that it is in touch with everyone concerned and will soon provide an update.
Earlier in the month, the Miss Universe Coin project was launched at the PBW event. Donald Lim, the head of the organization that oversees PBW, claimed at the event that PBW would “launch the Miss Universe Coin.” Despite this announcement, the official organization behind Miss Universe disavowed any ties with the coin project, labeling it as fraudulent. On September 22, an announcement was made on the official Miss Universe Facebook page stating neither the Miss Universe Organization nor the JKN Global Group, which is behind the pageant, have any connections with the coin project revealed at the PBW event. The organization has declared its intent to explore “all legal options with regards to this violation.” “There is no existing Miss Universe cryptocurrency or blockchain offering, and these offerings have no connection whatsoever with the voting or selection processes of the Miss Universe or Miss Universe Philippines pageants,” it declared.
In a message sent to Cointelegraph, a spokesperson from the Miss Universe Organization labeled the Miss Universe Coin as a “fraud,” anticipating its promotion at other global events. “We suspect that this may be brought up at forthcoming blockchain conferences in Dubai and Singapore. If it is mentioned there, we request not to provide coverage as it is fraudulent,” they advised.
On X (previously known as Twitter), PBW noted that it is actively communicating with all relevant parties and will release an update at the earliest. Cointelegraph’s attempt to get a response from the Philippine Blockchain Week was unsuccessful.
