Clones will be certified with a smart contract on the blockchain to verify their authenticity and genetic lineage.
A California nursery turned to blockchain and smart contracts to verify the authenticity of its herbal medicine.
The nursery, known as the Mendocino Clone Center, was named in a partnership announcement from Project EMTRI and the technology company Global Compliance Application on January 1. 13.
It will work with the power of the blockchain to support all clones, or child trees, with batch certificates. The cannabis center is a company specializing in plant genetics, producing clones and seedlings, and seeds for wholesale distribution.
The move allows nurseries to “chart the beginning of the cannabis plant’s journey to being a premium product for consumers based on the gram weight of the flowers,” he said. A batch certificate is a smart contract that is independently issued for each batch of clones. It gives each baby a tree with its own “unique identity block”, created by the nursery and linked to the Ethereum-based blockchain. Its customers, which include commercial farms and retail outlets, can use it to determine the authenticity of their clones and their genetic makeup, he added.
The first registration form will be available from the first week of February. Additionally, licensed growers who purchase Mendocino clones will receive EMTRI Token Rewards (EMT) and better rates for participating in the blockchain project.
The EMT was created in November 2022 to reward project participants. Tokens can be traded on Uniswap for USDC or invested for other returns. EMT is not listed in any kind of exchange or crypto market data such as CoinGecko. EMTRI Corp founder Scott Zarnes said:
“We are proud to be the first in the cannabis industry, to be the first in the United States to embrace this exciting technology in this way.”
However, combining crypto and cannabis is not a new idea.
In November, Metaverse launched a cannabis-based project called Cannaland to create a virtual world for cannabis enthusiasts. In January 2022, the custom pipe maker released its token bongs with celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Santana collecting NFTs.
Projects like PotCoin (POT) and CannabisCoin (CANN) aimed to provide industry-specific digital currency as early as 2014, but they never really gained traction.
