Microsoft and the UK-based telecommunications company Vodafone have announced a new 10-year strategic partnership. This collaboration focuses on integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities among other technological initiatives.
The partnership involves Vodafone investing $1.5 billion over the next decade in cloud services and AI services developed with Microsoft. Microsoft, in turn, will leverage Vodafone’s extensive connectivity services.
A key aspect of the partnership is the use of Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI Service across Vodafone’s customer service points, including the digital assistant TOBi. This integration aims to transform Vodafone’s customer experience.
Vodafone employees will have access to Microsoft’s AI tool, Copilot, to improve work practices, boost productivity, and enhance digital efficiency.
Both companies emphasize building AI integrations based on unbiased, ethical privacy, and security policies, adhering to Vodafone’s framework for responsible AI.
The partnership also aims to expand Vodafone’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform and develop new digital and financial services, particularly targeting small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe and Africa.
