Blockchain security company CertiK has issued an urgent advisory to all OKX users on iPhones, urging them to update their iOS app following the discovery of a severe security flaw earlier in December.
In a post on X (previously known as Twitter) dated December 19, CertiK alerted OKX wallet users to immediately upgrade their iOS applications to the latest version to mitigate risks associated with a recently identified security weakness.
“Earlier in the month, we detected and reported a critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability within the OKX iOS App, which posed a risk to the security of sensitive information and cryptocurrency assets,” CertiK stated. OKX addressed this issue by releasing a crucial update on December 19, advising users to switch to iOS version 6.45.0. CertiK has since verified that this update effectively resolves the security concern. An RCE vulnerability allows attackers to execute harmful code on a victim’s computer or network, potentially leading to financial losses or data breaches.
Additionally, OKX’s decentralized exchange, OKX DEX, experienced a security breach on December 13, resulting in a loss of $2.7 million due to the alleged leak of a proxy admin owner’s private key.
OKX ranks as the 10th leading cryptocurrency exchange in terms of trust, scoring 9 out of 10 on CoinGecko’s “trust score” leaderboard for trading platforms. Recently, in late November, OKX expanded its services to include trading and wallet functionalities in Brazil.
