Avraham Eisenberg, previously convicted of fraud and market manipulation in the $110 million heist from the DeFi protocol Mango Markets in October 2022, now faces charges related to the possession of child pornography.
A court filing dated April 3, made public on April 26, alleges that Eisenberg had images of prepubescent minors under the age of 12 on his electronic devices.
The latest charges stem from an initial discovery in August 2023 when the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation found child pornography on Eisenberg’s laptops and cell phones during an investigation into the fraud and market manipulation accusations.
Subsequently, law enforcement obtained a second warrant in February 2023 to broaden the scope of their search, leading to further allegations against Eisenberg for possessing and accessing child pornography.
Although the allegations are yet to be proven, Eisenberg could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty under the U.S. penal code.
Eisenberg has been in U.S. custody since January 2023 following his arrest in Puerto Rico in December 2022. He was convicted of fraud and market manipulation related to the Mango Markets exploit in October 2022.
Following a two-week jury trial, Eisenberg was found guilty of fraud charges on April 18. The judge is scheduled to announce sentencing at a hearing on July 29, with Eisenberg potentially facing up to 20 years in prison for the fraud charges.
