A Twitter user pointed out that if a top Bitcoin developer can’t keep his wallet secure, then mass adoption is a pipe dream.
Although one of the top developers of Bitcoin says that a hacker has stolen its balance, the crypto community is not sure how “ordinary people” will manage to protect their own Bitcoin BTC ($16,690).
In a recent thread, Luke Dashjr said that some of the alleged attackers had access to his private key (PGP), which came from a cryptographic program that generates private scans. Members of the crypto community have raised concerns about a powerful Bitcoin developer known to be guarding against potentially damaging security.
Some believe this makes it harder for ordinary people to accept or store their Bitcoin. In the post, the Twitter user was surprised by the news, saying that few people will be able to help the developer and “there is little hope for many”. They wrote in a tweet:
Others in the village echoed the sentiment and pointed out that if it could happen to Dashjr, there would be “no country” for their grandmother. The Twitter user also brought a big welcome to the conversation. They believe that if a leading Bitcoin developer cannot maintain their wallet, mass adoption is a “chimera”.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin analyst Namcios believes that these sentiments are not an accurate assessment of the situation. The analyst said that although Dashjr has a high level of Bitcoin knowledge, that does not mean that he cannot make mistakes.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao also responded to Dashjr’s Twitter thread asking the developer if there was anything the crypto exchange could do to help. Zhao also promised that his security team would investigate assets and release BTC if any were included in his crypto exchange.
On Nov. 14, Binance’s CEO recommended self-control only in small amounts, because mistakes can get “expensive.” Zhao described self-care as a basic human right and encouraged the community to ensure they get it right. Besides Zhao, MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor also discussed the benefits of self-restraint amid the FTX failure. Saylor said the guards are “accumulating a lot of power” in the system where there is no personal security.
