Byte City, a metaverse project, has announced a tribute event to legendary martial artist and actor Bruce Lee on the 50th anniversary of his passing. Starting from July 27, fans will have the opportunity to interact with an avatar of the late actor by minting avatars on Ethereum and Polygon networks.
The avatar minting opens at 9 AM PST on July 27 for Polygon and July 28 for Ethereum. After the mint, owners can utilize their avatars within the Byte City metaverse game 24 hours later. The game is accessible via desktop browsers as well as iOS and Android mobile devices.
Byte City has partnered with Shannon Lee, Bruce Lee’s daughter, and Samsung Gaming for the development of this tribute event. Shannon Lee expressed that the game will provide an immersive experience for fans to celebrate her father’s legacy in a unique way.
This event is not the first venture of Bruce Lee’s legacy into the Web3 world. In April, the Bruce Lee Foundation, also directed by Shannon Lee, teamed up with the nonfungible token (NFT) video platform Shibuya to create an NFT collection named The House of Lee. Despite initial excitement, NFT holders discovered that only one NFT was unique in the collection, causing the floor price to drop from its 0.008 Ether (ETH) minting price to around 0.002 ETH.
