Nissan Motor Co. unveiled the “Heritage Cars & Safe Drive Studio,” a new metaverse experience on March 7, blending historical insights with safety education.
Commemoration of Nissan’s 90th Anniversary:
The studio, launched to mark Nissan’s 90th anniversary year, features immersive depictions of three iconic Nissan automobiles from different eras, coupled with interactive safety exhibits.
Exhibit Highlights:
- Silvia Q’s S13 Showcase: Users can explore the Silvia Q’s S13, renowned globally as a drifting vehicle, while learning about the impact of pedestrian clothing colors on driver awareness.
- Skyline 2000GTX-E Mini-Game: Participants engage in a mini-game to grasp a driver’s field-of-view and the safety implications of multitasking while driving. They also have access to the Skyline 2000GTX-E, famous for its portrayal in pop culture.
- American Diner and Drive-In Theater Setting: Transporting users to the 1950s and 60s United States, this exhibit offers a classic American diner ambiance where participants can engage in a hands-on steering wheel spin exercise.
Collaboration and Development:
- The experiences were developed in collaboration with researchers at Japanese universities.
- Available on the Meta Quest headset, these exhibits complement previous Nissan metaverse endeavors, including the company’s inaugural virtual test drive in 2022.
Continued Metaverse Expansion:
- Nissan refreshed four existing metaverse worlds in December 2023 as part of its 90th anniversary celebration.
- The launch of Apple’s mixed-reality headset in February 2024 indicates growing competition in the AR and VR space, stimulating advancements in consumer and enterprise adoption.
