On March 4, CryptoPunk #3100, a rare alien non-fungible token (NFT), fetched the second highest selling price ever for a CryptoPunk, selling for 4,500 Ether (ETH), equivalent to $16,032,959 at the time.
An anonymous bidder acquired CryptoPunk #3100 around 2:30 pm UTC after several days of bidding, increasing their previous bid of 4,250 ETH to the closing price of 4,500 ETH.
CryptoPunk #3100 is one of 10,000 total CryptoPunks and one of only 406 with a headband. Its exceptional value stems from being one of only 9 Alien CryptoPunks.
The highest bid for a CryptoPunk occurred on Feb. 12, 2022, when CryptoPunk #5822, an alien wearing a bandana, sold for 8,000 ETH.
While technically the alien NFT with the least prominent individual attribute would be the rarest, the alien with a cap forward, a pipe, and shades is considered the rarest mathematically due to the number and rarity of attributes.
Sales dictate the market, and “alien with bandana” and “alien with headband” remain highly coveted among CryptoPunks. The top four also include two other alien pieces, with the remaining top 10 featuring CryptoPunks with the “ape” attribute.
The most expensive NFT ever sold at auction is Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann’s “Everydays: The First 5000 Days,” which fetched $69,346,250 on March 11, 2020.
