A recent survey conducted by Pantera Capital reveals that North America boasts the highest Web3 engineer salaries, averaging $166,610. This figure is followed by salaries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at $102,226; Latin America at $90,559; and the Asia-Pacific region at $75,000. The survey collected responses from over 1,600 individuals across 77 countries, with a significant 40.1% of them working in the decentralized finance sector, followed by 26.1% in centralized finance, and 15.2% in blockchain infrastructure.
A mere 2% of surveyed developers mentioned working full-time in a physical office, whereas 10.6% reported a hybrid working model. A substantial 87.8% claimed to be working entirely remotely.
In the U.S., salaries for junior and intermediate-level Web3 developers have seen a decrease of 4% to 8% over the last year, now ranging between $110,000 and $150,000. In contrast, the compensation for senior-level developers saw a slight increase of 1.5%, reaching $192,585 over the same timeframe.
Comparable salary figures were noted in finance, business development, and product operations roles. Web3 marketing and operations experts reported among the lowest salaries, with junior roles earning under $66,000. For Web3 executives in the U.S., starting salaries vary from $147,363 for initial-stage startups to $335,400 for established firms post-Series C funding. A vast majority, 97%, of respondents are paid in traditional fiat currencies, while the rest opted for crypto payments.
Beyond standard salary, 20% of those surveyed noted receiving token incentive packages. These packages average from $50,000 for seed-stage companies to $130,000 for firms at Series C or above, generally with a four-year vesting period. Pantera Capital intends to refresh this data biannually.
