Despite the downturn in the cryptocurrency market, Web3 gaming has remained robust, with industry experts forecasting a more dynamic year ahead for blockchain-based gaming.
Henry Chang, CEO of South Korean game developer Wemade, anticipates a surge in the release of blockchain games in 2024. In a conversation with Cointelegraph, Chang predicted an evolution in the integration of Web3 technologies in games, stating:
“With growing expertise and confidence among developers, we can expect to see more innovative and advanced incorporation of blockchain features in game mechanics and gameplay, along with a broader range of Web3 games across various genres.”
Chang also foresees an increase in gaming studios incorporating Web3 into their offerings. He attributes this trend to the unique aspects of blockchain gaming, such as new revenue opportunities, enhanced player experiences, and more engaging community involvement through token-based perks.
He further noted that blockchain integration in gaming restores ownership of in-game assets to players, bridges the gap between real-world economies and gaming, and fosters interoperability among games, creating a unified gaming ecosystem.
Echoing Chang’s views, Bartosz Skwarczek, founder and CEO of G2A Capital Group, which operates the gaming marketplace G2A, anticipates more collaborations between established gaming companies and Web3 startups in 2024.
A press release on Nov. 2 revealed Microsoft’s support for Chang’s Wemade in its Web3 endeavors. On Nov. 16, Skwarczek’s G2A, traditionally a game vendor, launched its own nonfungible token (NFT) marketplace dedicated to Web3 games. Skwarczek told Cointelegraph that these partnerships are likely to drive mainstream adoption of Web3 gaming. He added:
“With enhancements in accessibility and user interfaces, we can expect more sophisticated game designs and engaging gameplay, attracting a wider audience.”
He believes that the integration of NFTs for in-game assets and the debut of a high-quality Triple A-rated Web3 game could revolutionize blockchain gaming in the near future. However, a significant challenge for blockchain gaming in 2024 is attracting a larger player base. Chang points out that the complexity of blockchain technology can be daunting for both game designers and players.
To overcome these obstacles, Chang suggests simplifying the integration of Web3 elements for developers and making blockchain aspects more intuitive and game-friendly. This approach, he believes, will facilitate quicker adaptation by average gamers, leading to wider acceptance of Web3 in gaming.
Synchronizing with Chang’s thoughts, Skwarczek emphasized the need for a “revolutionary Web3 game” to establish a new standard in blockchain gaming and enhance the overall player experience. “Such a game,” Skwarczek remarked, “is the key to garnering attention and achieving mass adoption of Web3.”
