OpenAI has announced plans to enable creators of generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) models to monetize their personalized AI systems through its GPT Store, a marketplace for personalized AI applications. This initiative will allow GPT creators to earn revenue based on user engagement with their GPTs.
The GPT Store was introduced alongside these monetization plans and provides users with the ability to discover and build GPTs customized for specific tasks such as teaching math or designing stickers. Initially, the GPT Store will be available to users on paid ChatGPT plans.
The GPT Store is categorized into eight sections, each tailored to specific tasks:
Top Picks
Dall-E: Creating images from ideas
Writing: Refining text
Productivity: Enhancing efficiency
Research and Analysis: Assisting with information interpretation
Programming: Supporting coding and learning
Education: Exploring ideas and revisiting skills
Lifestyle: Providing tips on travel, workouts, style, and food
Users can download specialized GPTs for various purposes, with each section catering to a specific application.
OpenAI initially announced the GPT Store in November 2023 at its first developer conference, with plans to launch later that month. However, the launch was postponed in December to improve GPTs based on feedback. The delay coincided with the temporary removal and subsequent reinstatement of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman due to employee concerns.
Additionally, on January 10, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Team, a paid version designed for businesses to ensure private usage within their organizations. Priced at $25 to $30 per user per month, ChatGPT Team segregates a company’s data to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
